After a struggle for few days, printer worked, now scanner is not working.
Update is on for ever.
Link can be seen on Start screen, but can't select the device for scanning from empty list offered.

I had a similar problem and was able to get the printer to work by uninstalling and reinstalling the software.
I found for this to work, you need to go to Control Panel.
Then uninstall and reinstall the software.
Also, be sure to set the Compatibility Mode of the installer to Win 7 or before.
You should be able to get the Original Installation software to work if it is fairly recent If your drivers won't install due to an error message.
You will need a program like WinZip, WinRar, 7Zip, or similar to do this.
Then double the Setup to install.
I have installed Windows 8 release preview and install the latest driver for my Hp M1005 it works but after a while the printer does not respond to commands, the scanner works fine but the printer no, i will uninstall the windows 8 and go back to windows 7 because this error.
